On Tuesday, November 19, Mrs. Driver's Education as a Profession class had the opportunity to attend Future Georgia Educator Day at Georgia Southwestern State University. Each year the Professional Association for Georgia Educators (PAGE) hosts this event at various colleges throughout the state. At this event, students attend workshops on educational practices, participate in competitions, attend a college fair, and network with other future educator candidates. This year, Schley County High School took 14 students to the event and participated in the Knowledge Bowl. The team consisting of Kenzie Shearer, Jentrea' Skipper, and Kenlee Lightner placed 2nd and will have the opportunity to compete in the state knowledge bowl in March.
On Thursday, November 14, Schley County FCCLA attended the FCCLA Fall Conference at the FFA-FCCLA Camp in Covington, GA. At the conference, students had the opportunity to attend leadership sessions, participate in competitions, and network with other students from across the state. Students from Schley County FCCLA competed in Membership Recruitment, Cupcake Design, Lapel Pin Design, and Food Preservation. We would like to congratulate Schley County FCCLA for placing 2nd in the state in the Preserve and Serve Fruit Jam event. Students in this event submitted a jar of blueberry jelly they preserved using water bath canning.
Schley County FCCLA hosted a food drive at the Middle/High School from October 28 - November 15. Students were informed on statistics of food insecurity in America and Schley County. Then they were encouraged to "share their thanks by giving" through daily announcements, teacher reminders, and flyers posted around the school. Over the 3 week period, FCCLA collected 137 items. Items were donated to the local food pantry on Wednesday, November 20 and will be distributed to families in the community during the holidays. FCCLA hopes to continue this outreach and improve the number of families reached in the future.

The Schley County School system must engage in timely and meaningful consultation with representatives of private schools and with parents about the provision of special education and related services for parentally placed private school children attending private schools within the school system’s jurisdictions. This would include parents of students in a homeschool setting. Schley County Schools will hold a Proportionate Share Consultation meeting to carry out this process on Tuesday, October 29th at 2:00PM. The meeting will be held at the Schley County Board of Education office, located at 161 Perry Drive, Ellaville, GA 31806. If you have any questions, please contact the Schley County Schools Special Education Department at 229-937-2405.
